Helping older people thrive
For people who find themselves on the margins because of loneliness and isolation, Lion Cubs is an interactive music/ playgroup in Lionsbrae residential care. This helps the elderly and vulnerable in our community find connection and moments of joy as they associate with preschoolers and their families.
Lioncubs - Music for Pre-Schoolers
The idea behind what we do with 'Lioncubs' came from watching a TV program, “Aged care for 4yr olds,” where preschoolers interacted with people in an aged care facility. As we watched we said 'we could do something like that!' A couple of years on Lionsbrae aged care gave us permission to run a music program for preschoolers in their Aged care facility. Now we see up to 25 residents come each week and interact with families of preschoolers. But watching these older people interacting with little people 'both babies and toddlers and seeing them do round and round the garden is just so good.'
